Singular dan Plural Nouns

·         Singular noun : is noun just one, for example : a house, a car, etc

·         Plural noun : is noun more than one, for example : two pens, four bags, etc.

·         (Noun yang menunjukkan satu orang (miss. Girl), sebuah benda (a pencil) atau sebuah tempat ( a market ) disebut dengan singular noun)

·         (Sementara noun yang menunjukkan jumlah lebih dari satu orang (miss. Girls) , benda ( The pencils) atau tempat ( the markets), disebut dengan plural noun.)

Ø  The ways to make a plural nouns

(Cara membentuk  plural nouns) :

1.       By andding “es” to nouns ending –ch, -s, -sh, -x.

(Dengan menambahkan “es”  pada noun yang berakhiran –ch, -s, -sh, dan –x.)  

Example :

Beach > beaches              peach > peaches

Boss > bosses                    glass > glasses

Brush > brushes                               fish > fishes

Box > boxes                       hoax > hoaxes

2.        By andding “es” to nouns ending -o

(dengan menambahkan “es” pada noun yang beakhiran –o)

Example:

Buffalo > buffaloes         potato > potatoes

3.       By andding “s” to nouns ending -o

(Dengan menambahkan “s” pada noun yang berakhiran –o)

Example :

Bamboo >bamboos        photo > photos

4.       Change “y” to be –ies

(Dengan mengganti “y” dengan –ies)

Example:

Baby > babies                    fly > flies

-          By adding “s” to nouns ending in –y

(dengan menambahkan “s” pada noun yang beakhiran –y)

Example :

Boy > boys                          key > keys

-          By replaying “f” or “fe”  with  -ves

(dengan mengganti dari “f” atau “fe” menjadi –ves)

Example :

Calf > calves                       loaf > loaves

Life > lives                           wife > wives

-          by adding  “s”  to nouns ending in –f or –fe

(dengan menambahkan “s” pada noun yang beakhiran –f atau -fe)

example :

chief > chiefs                     hoof > hoofs

reef > reefs                        gulf > gulfs

-          by changing vowels

(dengan mengubah bunyi kata)

example :

foot > feet                          louse > lice

goose > geese                   mouse > mice

-          some nouns have some words for plural and singular

(beberapa noun plural = singular)

example :

aircraft > aircraft               music > music

series > series                   sheep > sheep

-          exceptional plural

(plural pengecualian)

example :

child > children                  ox > oxen

            crisis > crises                      radius > radii
